Common questions

It is natural to wonder if choir is for you.

Most people have questions before their first rehearsal. Here are the things newcomers most often want to know.

Do I need singing experience?

No previous choir experience is needed. We welcome people who are trying group singing for the first time as well as experienced singers looking for a new choir.

Do I need to know my voice part?

No. Choose “Not sure yet” on the form. We will help you find the section that is most comfortable for your voice.

Do I need to be a certain age or background?

No. We welcome adult lower-voice singers of different ages, sexualities, cultures, beliefs and neurodiversity. What matters is an interest in singing, a willingness to learn and respect for the people around you. We want rehearsals and choir life to be a safe, friendly place where everyone is treated as an equal and can contribute as part of the team.

Will I have to sing on my own?

Your first visit is about meeting us and experiencing a rehearsal. You can listen and join in with the group when you feel ready; there is no pressure to perform on your own.

What kind of music do you sing?

Our repertoire ranges from songs from shows and spirituals to traditional English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh music—plus a few numbers that may surprise you.

What happens after rehearsal?

Members often meet informally at The Waggoners in Ayot Green from around 9:45pm. Visitors are very welcome to join us.
